Pančavský vodopád

Pančavský vodopád

Špindlerův Mlýn

The highest waterfall in the Czech Republic is Pančavský vodopád in the Krkonoše mountains. Its height is an impressive 148 metres. It is located on the Pančava stream, which is a right-bank tributary of the Labe river. Together with Labský vodopád, it forms a system of viewpoints in Labský důl. One of the most famous is Ambrožova vyhlídka, from which Labský důl, Kotel, and Kozí hřbety are spread out before visitors. This is not the only reason why Pančavský vodopád is a sought-after tourist location.

The waterfall reaches its greatest flow during the spring thaw in April and May. In these months, the large volume of water forms several separate branches. The waterfall itself has a cascading character, and its width varies depending on the season, ranging from 4 to 8 metres.

Access to Pančavský vodopád itself is restricted, as it is located in the first zone of the Krkonošský národní park. A marked tourist trail leads from Špindlerův Mlýn around the waterfalls. Those who take this path will certainly not regret it. In addition to wonderful views, many other attractions await. Just above the waterfall is a memorial plaque to Otokar Štětka, who was the head of the Horská záchranná služba Krkonoše for more than half a century.

Further along, visitors will also encounter the Mohyla Hanče a Vrbaty. This is a monument to the famous skier Bohumil Hanč, who died here during a race, and his friend Václav Vrbata, who tried to help him. The trail continues into the western Krkonoše and branches off in several directions. It is possible to reach the source of the Labe river, the Sněžné jámy, from which it is possible to see as far as Poland or Harrachov to see the famous Mumlavský vodopád.

However, let us return to Pančavský vodopád, which derived its name from the German word "plantschen," meaning to splash or spray. It has been a frequent destination for tourists since the past. In 1859, a local hotelier, Josef Schier, had a small reservoir with a sluice gate built above the upper part of the waterfall. He used this to increase the flow of the waterfall, particularly as an attraction for paying tourists. At that time, an upper viewing terrace and several refreshment stalls were also in operation. In the first half of the 20th century, however, the terrace and refreshments were removed.

Nevertheless, this does not detract from the picturesqueness of this place. Therefore, it should definitely not be missed when choosing Krkonoše attractions. The highest mountains offer a great deal indeed. There is something here for everyone. Hikers certainly cannot leave without conquering Sněžka, skiers have a choice of several top-tier ski resorts, and children will long remember the Stezka korunami stromů Krkonoše.

And it is not possible to fit this all into one day? You are right, a day in the Krkonoše is truly not enough. Fortunately, there are many mountain huts, hotels, and guesthouses here that offer accommodation with meals, or even wellness stays. It is entirely up to you what you prefer. In any case, accommodation near Pančavský vodopád or anywhere in the Krkonoše guarantees endless possibilities for trips, relaxation, and beautiful nature. Can you hear it too? The mountains are calling you.

It flows year-round and is an ideal spot for those seeking peace, beauty, and closeness to nature in an intimate setting.

Discover the magic of nature, gentle rustling, and the beauty of detail

At the very beginning of the valley, where the Anenský potok overcomes rock ledges, an impressive waterfall awaits you. It is a great stop for hikers who want to complement their longer trip in the area with an undemanding but unforgettable experience. Access to the waterfall is very easy and the terrain is flat, so everyone can handle it easily regardless of their fitness level. However, we would like to inform pet owners that due to the nature of the site and the protection of the surrounding environment, visiting this location with dogs is not highly recommended.

Where to continue and what is worth seeing

The starting point for the trip is in the village of Skuteč or Hroubovice, from where a marked path leads through the valley to the waterfall. In the vicinity, you can stop at the kaplnka svätej Anny (Chapel of Saint Anne), explore the iron-rich spring, or continue further along forest paths to discover other quiet corners of the region.

A place where water slows the breath of time

The waterfall in Anenské údolí invites you to contemplate the flow of water and the peace of the nature reserve. It is a place where even a small detail gains meaning – come and find peace, a story in the sound of water, and a contrast to the bustle of the world.

Malý Adršpašský vodopád

Malý Adršpašský vodopád

Adršpach

A significant natural attraction that can be found near Adršpach in Východní Čechy is certainly the waterfalls on the Metuje river. Visitors will find the Velký Adršpašský vodopád, which is approximately 16 metres high. Just 50 metres away, another waterfall plunges into the rock gorges. Since it is significantly smaller, reaching a height of about 4 metres, it was named the Malý Adršpašský vodopád. It provides a pleasant refreshment on a journey through the Adršpašsko-teplické skály. Above them is also the Adršpašské jezírko, where boat rides are offered.

Visitors can let themselves be carried away by the pleasant babbling of the water from the gazebo built near the signpost of the yellow tourist trail. During the summer months, the water flow in the river decreases due to the warm weather. For this reason, a sluice gate was installed above the waterfall, which can increase its flow at the request of visitors. But beware, it is not quite that simple. Visitors must know the magic spell, or rather shout the secret password Krakonoš.

However, visitors certainly will not set out to this place just for the Malý Adršpašský vodopád. It is strongly recommended to walk through the entire Adršpach rock town and admire the diverse sandstone formations that received their names from objects, people, or animals they resemble. Thus, visitors can see, for example, Milenec, Starosta a starostová, Krakonošova lenoška, and Sloní náměstí. The ruin of hrad Adršpach is also a magical place offering a wonderful view of the surrounding rocks and forests.

The Adršpašsko-teplické skály are a frequently visited place due to their magnificent scenery, popular among tourists from both the Czech Republic and abroad. The accommodation offer therefore had to be adapted to the high attractiveness of this area. Romantic chalets and cottages, timbered houses, and cosy private accommodation only complete the atmosphere of this magical place. Local entrepreneurs are also prepared for more demanding clientele. Would visitors like to set out on a wellness stay, for hiking, or simply for a relaxing stay? A better place could hardly have been chosen. Hotels and guesthouses in the vicinity of the Adršpašsko-teplické skály will certainly satisfy all requirements. Finding accommodation near the Malý Adršpašský vodopád will therefore be no problem at all. Visitors simply need to plan their holiday, pack their bags, and set off.
