Aside from swimming, visitors can also fish, cruise the water surface on boats, or water ski. A circuit for motorized racers has been built on the western shore of the reservoir.

Conversely, in the southern part of the reservoir, where the meandering Stonávka flows into the reservoir, visitors will find the Těrlické mokřady nature trail. In winter, the Těrlická přehrada transforms into a paradise for ice skaters. If there is a fresh snow cover, cross-country skiers can also be encountered here. In past years, when there was a proper winter and temperatures consistently stayed deep below freezing, winter races in ice skating, skiing, and other winter pleasures took place on the Těrlická přehrada, widely attended not only by locals but also by visitors from the wider surroundings.

If visitors are fortunate enough to spend their holiday in this area, they are encouraged to set off to discover other interesting places in the Karviná region. Visitors should not be misled. It has long since ceased to be merely a region full of miners, mines, and the mining industry. Instead, it is swarming with tourists, cyclists, runners, and skiers, for whom Lysá hora and its surroundings are a great attraction.

What to do on Lysá hora in winter?

According to another legend, the treasure of the bandit Ondráš and his band is hidden inside Lysá hora. It is said to be guarded by "divá Hana," a witch whose spirit appears in the form of a huge snake with a golden crown... Whether or how much of the legends about witches and treasures are true, no one knows. However, it remains a fact that Lysá hora is a true jewel of the Moravskoslezské Beskydy and the entire Valašsko region.

An altitude of 1,323 metres combined with a characteristic climate makes Lysá hora one of the coldest places in the Česká republika – why visit, then? Precisely for that reason! Lysá hora certainly cannot complain about a lack of snow. Permanent snow cover can be found here from October to May. Snowfall peaks during March, and it is not unusual for its depth to exceed 2 metres. It would be a sin not to take advantage of such conditions!

Experienced cross-country skiers are likely familiar with the Lysohorská magistrála, from which Lysá hora can be conquered from three different directions. And what could be better after a ride through the snow-covered landscape than traditional Valašsko refreshments? At the summit of Lysá hora, there are two mountain huts available (the Bezručova hut and the Chata Emil Zátopek – Maraton, which also offers accommodation), each one nicer than the other. The conditions on the mountain also favour ski mountaineering enthusiasts and would favour downhill skiers as well, but the possibilities for downhill skiing are a subject of dispute between conservationists and proponents of this sport on Lysá hora.

Hiking, cycling, and paragliding

Lysá hora is not only one of the coldest but also one of the windiest areas in the country. Is that also a reason to visit? Of course! Especially if you are a paragliding enthusiast. The Beskydy as a whole are among the top paragliding areas in our country, and their highest peak, being an ideal flight terrain with all the infrastructure around it, is a kind of symbol of this status.

Otherwise, Lysá hora is a destination especially for hikers and cyclists, for whom it is a cult place. Several marked trails and paths lead to the summit of the mountain. Perhaps the most popular one leads from Ostravice, is just under 9 kilometres long, and has been part of an event called Bezručův výplaz for 60 years. As the name suggests, it is the favourite route of the Czech poet Petr Bezruč, along which he undertook his "climbs" to the summit of Lysá hora.

For more demanding hikers with very good physical fitness, we recommend the ascent from Krásná; for the less fit, there is a relaxing route from Visalaje. Although it is almost 9 kilometres long, it is the easiest walking ascent to Lysá hora of all.

As for cyclists, they will certainly welcome the opportunity to test their abilities and endurance while climbing Lysá hora from Papežov. It is the only completely paved route on which there is even a ban on car traffic (except for those with an ascent permit), so it is a true paradise for road cycling enthusiasts. However, if you are looking for something more leisurely, we recommend taking the path from Malenovice. It should be noted, however, that the terrain is only rideable on mountain bikes, not road bikes.

How to get to Lysá hora?

Accessing Lysá hora by car is permitted only to the owners of local properties or their contractual business partners. In special cases, some buses may also receive an ascent permit. Otherwise, visitors may use a special shuttle bus service, which runs at regular intervals from various directions up to the summit of the mountain.

Another option is offered by the aforementioned bicycle. However, the "Moravian cogwheel" is also popular – you just have to grit your teeth and pedal and pedal... all the way to the top. Most people use the route from Ostravice to climb Lysá hora. There is also the final train station in this village, with trains running from the direction of Frýdlant nad Ostravicí.

Accommodation on Lysá hora and in its surroundings

In addition to the aforementioned huts at the summit of Lysá hora, it is also possible to make use of hundreds of beds available in the foothills of this Beskydy landmark. If you wish to be as close to Lysá hora as possible, focus on finding suitable accommodation in Staré Hamry, Ostravice, Čeladná, or Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. Letní koupaliště Karviná is a popular summer destination for many people, especially children. On warm, sunny days, visitors can pleasantly spend their free time, refresh themselves, or simply relax at this swimming pool in the Moravskoslezský kraj (Moravian-Silesian Region). The pool is located directly in Karviná and is also excellently accessible by bus transport from Orlová, Havířov, or Ostrava. Visitors can alight directly in front of the pool gates and dive into the pool within three minutes.

Four pools await visitors here, all of which make hot summer days more enjoyable. The largest pool, with an area of almost 900 square metres, is designated as a recreational pool. Its depth reaches a mere 110 cm, yet its bottom provides pearl massage, and there are also pearl massage loungers, water spouts, and a spraying hedgehog. Furthermore, an extra-wide slide flows into the pool, so visitors can experience a bit of adrenaline here as well. Only slightly smaller is the multi-purpose pool with a depth of up to 1.8 metres. It is divided into two parts, the first of which consists of a 25-metre swimming pool with five lanes, while the second is packed with attractions. Pearl massage can be enjoyed here too, but visitors are certainly encouraged to try the wild river. Older children will certainly not be discouraged from riding the water slide. And for those accompanied by truly young children, a ship-shaped pool with massage features is prepared for them. However, the spraying disc and the attractive, cheerful water clown enjoy the greatest popularity.

If visitors cannot imagine a day by the pool without additional sports, the Karviná swimming pool will not disappoint them either. There are two beach volleyball courts with special sand designed for this sport. Furthermore, the courts have competition dimensions, meaning they will satisfy even demanding athletes. The complex has its own shower and necessary facilities.

Whenever visitors work up an appetite from all that movement, fast-food style meals such as French fries or langos can be purchased here. However, a pizzeria with outdoor seating also operates within the pool complex, where hot meals can be ordered. Non-alcoholic beverages and beer are also available. Visitors can therefore safely spend almost the entire day here.

Although the car park around the summer swimming pool often bursts at the seams on the busiest days, visitors can be certain that if they are transporting a person with a disability, a parking space is guaranteed directly within the pool complex. Another transport option is also the bicycle, for which a storage facility is provided, so visitors need not have any worries about it.

Those wishing to stay longer will likely look for accommodation near Letní koupaliště Karviná. Several guest houses and hotels can be found directly in Karviná. This accommodation is situated practically in the town centre; therefore, if greater contact with nature is preferred, accommodation options in Těrlicko or alternatively Soběšovice can also be tried. A so-called safe bet is then accommodation in Ostrava, which, as a regional capital, offers accommodation ranging from hotels and apartments to hostels. The advantage of these towns is very good bus and train connections, making them suitable even for those who do not have their own car.

And where to visit in the Karviná district to take away pleasant experiences? A fairytale atmosphere is breathed at Zámek Fryštát (Fryštát Chateau), which is located on the historic square in Karviná. It includes an extensive chateau park with a game enclosure where children can feed red deer, fallow deer, guinea pigs, and see peacocks. Further swimming is possible at the nearby Těrlicko and Žermanice reservoirs, though if visitors would rather have their feet firmly on dry land, a great place for families with children is Archeopark Chotěbuz – Podobora, which introduces a Slavic fortified settlement, and furthermore, thematic events and workshops for children take place here in the summer. Another nearby destination is DinoPark Ostrava or Slezskoostravský hrad (Silesian Ostrava Castle). As can be seen, the list of attractions in the Karviná and Ostrava regions could be long. However, the best course of action is to set out here and try everything firsthand.

Zoologická zahrada Ostrava is currently the second largest in the Czech Republic and rightly ranks among the significant attractions of the Moravian-Silesian Region. It is located in the Slezská Ostrava district of Ostrava and was founded in 1951. However, it was not opened to the public until 1960.

Currently, approximately 400 species of animals roam an area of about 100 hectares. The zoo also boasts interactive exhibits, playgrounds, an eco-kitchen, and even a cemetery for extinct animals. Satinský vodopád, sometimes also referred to as Vodopád na Satině, is rather a smaller natural monument in the Moravskoslezský kraj, in the Frýdek-Místek District. It lies in the cadastral area of the municipality of Malenovice on the Satina stream, which originates below Lysá hora and is part of the Chráněná krajinná oblasti Beskydy.

There are certainly more significant waterfalls in our country as well; Satinský vodopád, despite being less than 2 meters high, is nevertheless frequently visited by tourists. It is protected by the surrounding forests and is hidden in a rock gorge about 1 kilometer long. And it is precisely the picturesqueness of the surroundings and the shadows created by massive beeches that give this place a special, almost fairytale-like feel.

Along the entire course of the Satina stream, there are also other smaller waterfalls and cascades. Some are hidden even in considerably deep gorges, and therefore getting directly to them can be very dangerous, especially after rain. This entire area is designated as the Přírodní památka vodopády Satiny.

The surroundings of Satinský vodopád are rich in diverse fauna and flora. When looking around, visitors may have the feeling of being in a primeval forest. Particularly well-represented are acidic beech forests, and at the same time, up to 3 species of rare animals,  caddisflies, occur here.

Setting out to explore the waterfall is possible from Ostravice, which is a significant tourist center of the Beskydy. Several marked tourist routes lead from here. During the hike, visitors walk along a forest footpath all the way to Medvědí skála, which is one of the nicest viewpoints in the Beskydy.

As the name suggests, it can be found in the southern part of the city, which is not only a significant university seat and home to the mining and extraction industry but also the cultural centre of the Moravskoslezský kraj region.

What awaits visitors here? The Vodní areál Jih offers a 50-metre swimming pool. It features 6 swimming lanes and a depth ranging from 140 to 180 cm. In the immediate vicinity, sun loungers are placed for sunbathing or relaxation. The relaxation pool, located nearby, is between 100 and 120 cm deep. It includes water and air massage benches, and just like by the swimming pool, sun loungers are placed around it, along with a spacious grassy area.

Adrenaline lovers are usually most drawn to slides and water slides. Visitors will find plenty of them here. One of them is the Kamikadze, and as the name implies, it is clear that overcoming it will require a good deal of courage. It is a 20-metre steep slide, and visitors will be in the splash pool in the blink of an eye. A longer experience can be enjoyed on the open water slides with a length of 86 metres, while the less daring will appreciate the two 16-metre slides.

For families with children, a children's pool and a paddling pool with various water features are prepared, such as a slide, a water cup, a wild river, a water cannon, etc. There is also a playground with a tartan surface featuring plenty of climbing frames, swings, and a climbing wall. Parents may make use of the benches to watch their children play or enjoy refreshments at one of the nearby snack stalls.

Professional staff and lifeguards oversee order and safety throughout the duration of your stay. If visitors wish to engage in sports outside the pools, two beach volleyball courts or two other courts for badminton, foot tennis, or volleyball are available. Visitors may enjoy water fun in a 25-metre pool with 6 swimming lanes. The pool is divided into a section for non-swimmers and a section for swimmers. A diving board is located above the swimmers' section. Thanks to barrier-free access and a special JOB wheelchair, swimming is also accessible to disabled visitors. Immediately next to the pool, there is a children's paddling pool with a water mushroom.

Adrenaline enthusiasts will certainly appreciate the 100-metre-long water slide, which is complemented by interesting lighting effects. During the ride, visitors will experience complete darkness, flashing sections of the slide, and a passage through an underwater world. It is, of course, intended not only for children, but adults will also enjoy plenty of fun here. Another interesting experience is offered by Vodní svět Sareza through its water cave. It consists of various nooks and water attractions, such as a hydromassage area for 6 persons or an area with air loungers and geysers. Thanks to ubiquitous cameras, a lifeguard oversees safety here as well.

The local wellness centre will also be a true relaxation paradise. Several types of saunas are prepared – Finnish, steam, and Celtic. A relaxation room, a Kneipp path, and therapeutic baths are also part of the wellness centre at Vodní svět Sareza. Iodine-bromine or peat treatments assist in the treatment of joints, the spine, and blood vessels.

If you wish to work out a little before water relaxation, visit the local fitness centre. As you are on a higher floor, you have Vodní svět Sareza at your fingertips. You can observe the indoor area and, during the summer, also the exterior, where the outdoor swimming pool is located.

The outdoor area includes a swimming pool, a relaxation pool, a slide, and a children's section, where a slide with a gargoyle, a toadstool-shaped shower, and a water-spraying rhinoceros are located. A nearby grassy area offers plenty of space for sunbathing and relaxation. You can also keep an eye on children running off to play in the sandpit or on the wooden castle, which are also part of the outdoor area of Vodní svět Sareza.

Fun is definitely guaranteed here for the whole day.
