Its name, Bon Repos, means "good rest" in French, which accurately reflects its purpose. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century for Count František Antonín Špork, one of the most significant patrons of Baroque art in Bohemia. The complex consists of the main Baroque chateau and two unique auxiliary buildings. One of them is the Červený zámek, and the second is the Chinese-inspired Čínský pavilon with an octagonal floor plan, which testifies to the fashion for oriental elements at the time. After the death of Špork, the chateau changed owners and was protected, but gradually fell into disrepair. In the 1990s, the chateau passed into private ownership and is shining once again following an extensive reconstruction.

This is one of the largest rope centers in the Czech Republic. It is likewise possible to walk through the treetops in the Forest Town, which is furthermore intertwined with underground corridors as well.

Animals are very popular with children, and this was also thought of in Park Mirakulum. Children can thus run around in the enclosure of Dutch goats and pigs, while on the Forest Educational Trail, it is possible to see an eagle owl, a squirrel, a fox, or a raven.

And those who like adrenaline will certainly also appreciate 4 giant swings suspended at a height of 12 meters above the ground or tubing - a ride on a rubber boat. Fathers will in turn reminisce about the times of compulsory military service thanks to a ride in tracked combat vehicles in the neighboring Tankodrom, which is connected to Park Mirakulum by a narrow-gauge railway.

The entire park is thematically styled and forms an incredibly diverse whole. Visitors will certainly not be bored here, and when hunger or fatigue strikes, many fast food stalls or relaxation zones can be utilized. Celebrations or corporate events can even be organized in the park. It is sufficient to rent a barbecue spot, a chapel, or a cider house with a grill, and the fun with friends can begin.

Park Mirakulum is one of the most popular places for families with children in the entire Central Bohemian Region, visited by tens of thousands of visitors annually. It is worthwhile to plan a family trip here, or alternatively find accommodation near Park Mirakulum and spend a longer time in the park and its surroundings. Chvalský zámek

Chvalský zámek

Prague

A Medieval Fortress Transformed into a Renaissance Residence in the Suburbs of Prague

Chvalský zámek, situated in Horní Počernice on the outskirts of Prague, has a rich history whose roots date back to the fourteenth century. Originally a medieval fortress founded by the lords of Chval, it served as a simple fortified residence for its first centuries. Its most significant period of prosperity occurred after 1573, when it was purchased by the Prague burgher and wealthy entrepreneur František Hrdý z Klokočné. He had the fortress rebuilt into a grandiose Renaissance château with an extensive courtyard, a brewery, and farm buildings. The château thus acquired its characteristic appearance with sgraffito decoration.

In the seventeenth century, the estate passed to the Old Town of Prague, and during the Thirty Years' War, the château was damaged twice. Nevertheless, it survived and served the city as an agricultural farmyard. After 1945, it became state property, but due to disuse and neglect, it fell into a state of disrepair. Its current appearance is the result of a comprehensive reconstruction at the beginning of the twenty-first century, which restored its Renaissance character. Today, the château focuses on cultural and social use, serving as a museum, a gallery, and a venue for concerts and theatrical performances.

Access

Chvalský zámek is located in the Prague 20 – Horní Počernice district. Access is possible via the D11 (E67) motorway or the I/10 road. Parking is available in the vicinity of the château. Public transport runs to Horní Počernice from Prague: buses to the Chvaly stop or by S2 train to the Praha-Horní Počernice station, from which the château is about a ten-minute walk away.

Things Worth Discovering

In the immediate vicinity of Chvalský zámek is zámek Černý Most, which was rebuilt from an original medieval fortress and today serves as a restaurant. North of the château lies the přírodní park Klánovický les, which offers extensive opportunities for relaxation and cycling in nature on the outskirts of Prague. In Horní Počernice, it is also possible to visit kostel sv. Bartoloměje, which was built in the Baroque style and is one of the landmarks of the district. Also worthy of mention is the nearby Prague district of Újezd nad Lesy, where the vodní nádrž Hostivař is located, ideal for recreation.

Hostivařská přehrada

Hostivařská přehrada

Prague

Hostivařská přehrada, or the Vodní nádrž Hostivař reservoir, is the largest body of water within the territory of the capital city of Prague. It stretches along the city's southeastern edge on the Botič stream. From an aerial view, the reservoir's surface has a serpentine shape; it is 2.5 kilometres long and up to 400 metres wide in places. Its maximum depth is 12 metres, and it also incorporates a small hydroelectric power plant.

The primary reason for the reservoir's construction was flood protection. However, Hostivař also serves anglers and, of course, vacationers. On the northern side, the reservoir is bordered by a forest park, which is part of the Přírodní park Hostivař - Záběhlice. In the southern section, visitors can find beaches and other necessary facilities.

At the main beach, a long sandy area with a gradual entry into the water is available, making it suitable even for small children. Visitors may make use of numerous spots for resting and sunbathing, refreshment stalls, changing rooms, and showers. Trampolines and a giant water slide with a timer are prepared for children, while a fitness zone is available for athletes. Visitors can try wakeboarding, rent paddleboards, or play beach volleyball on the court. Various sports and cultural programmes take place throughout the season, and childcare is available on weekends for those with younger children. Nothing, therefore, stands in the way of enjoying a day at Hostivařská přehrada to the fullest.

In the quietest part of the complex, separated from the main beach by a forest, one of the oldest naturist beaches in the Czech Republic is located. Refreshment kiosks, sports equipment rentals, and sanitary facilities are also situated here. If you are a proponent of naturism, you should certainly not miss Hostivařská přehrada.

The Vodní nádrž Hostivař also serves for fishing. However, it is necessary to count on many restrictions, as the primary focus here is recreational use, to which all activities on the reservoir are subordinated. For instance, baiting and polluting the reservoir from the shore or from boats are prohibited. Carp fishing predominates, though you may also catch bream or eel.

During the summer season, Hostivařská přehrada is one of the most visited Prague attractions. Thanks to its easy accessibility from the centre, it is frequently used by permanent residents who come here to relax after a demanding workday. On weekends, those who come to Prague for a trip or a longer holiday also come here to cool off. For them, a number of guesthouses, hotels, and apartments are available in the immediate vicinity. Due to the attractiveness of the surroundings, finding suitable accommodation near Hostivařská přehrada is relatively easy. The range of options is truly extensive. One need only choose carefully so that your holiday in Prague becomes an unforgettable experience.
