On the site of the original Gothic fortress, a grand Renaissance castle was built after the fire of 1562, becoming the seat of the famous Rožmberk family. Under the guidance of builder Antonio Ericer Vlach, it took on a monumental form that still ranks among Třeboň’s most significant landmarks. Later, the castle became a favored residence of the Schwarzenberg family and continues to preserve their legacy.

Stráž nad Nežárkou Chateau – a story of music and history

In the picturesque town of Stráž nad Nežárkou stands a chateau that grew from the site of the original Gothic castle into its present form over the centuries. After a fire in 1570, it underwent a Renaissance reconstruction and at the beginning of the 18th century, it gained Baroque elegance. Its most famous era came during the time of the renowned opera singer Ema Destinnová, who lived here from 1914 to 1930 and gave the chateau its unmistakable atmosphere. Today it is open to the public, offering tours, cultural events, and peaceful moments in the chateau park.
